The State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Esik” hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference “V Esik Readings” on the theme: “Steppe Civilization of Eurasia: Current Issues of Studying, Preserving and Using Monuments of Historical and Cultural Heritage”.

The event was organized to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Kemal Akishev, one of the founders of the Kazakh school of archaeology, a researcher of the ancient and medieval history of Kazakhstan, an outstanding archaeologist and scientist.

The conference discussed the current issues of Kazakhstan archaeology: methods of preserving and using historical and cultural heritage, methods of studying and protecting historical and cultural heritage objects based on the results of field research, interdisciplinary research and issues related to the development of museum affairs.

In addition to domestic scientists, foreign scientists also participated in the conference. In particular, our colleagues from Russia, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and the People’s Republic of China participated in offline and online formats. The international scientific and practical conference was held in Kazakh, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, and English.

The conference was opened by Gulmira Railykyzy, director of the “Esik” museum-reserve, and continued with a congratulatory speech by Seitova Kumis Karsakbayevna, chairman of the Culture Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The plenary session was attended by the director of the scientific restoration laboratory “Island of Crimea” Krym Altynbekov, professor, Turkologist, doctor of philosophy, PhD, invited from the Kazakh National University n. a. al-Farabi Savash Shahin, deputy director of the directorate of museums of Astana, professor Absemetov Marat Oralbayuly.

This year, more than twenty scientific articles were submitted to the V Esik Readings of the International Scientific and Practical Conference.

As part of the conference, a memorial hall dedicated to the famous scientist K. Akishev and an exhibition “Captain of Archaeology” were opened, where you can see the scientist’s personal belongings, information about his life and scientific works.

In addition, the exhibition “Cultural complex of early nomads in the Sarytogay Valley”, created on the basis of archaeological works carried out in 2024 under the project “Left branch of the Ili River, Middle course of the Sharyn River, Cultural complex of early nomads in the Sarytogay Valley”, financed by the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan, was presented to the visitors.
